From December 14 to 16, 2025, Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel is thrilled to offer exclusive guided tours of the historic jail in exchange for non-perishable food donations.

Your contribution helps the Ottawa Food Bank provide essential meals to families in need. Every donation counts and makes a difference.

The jail tour is perfect for families or groups of friends. Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of a unique place filled with remarkable stories. Built in 1862, this prison once housed some of Canada’s most infamous convicts. Now, after being transformed into a hostel five decades ago, it continues to fascinate visitors with stories from travelers around the world.


How it works

To participate, simply bring a donation of non-perishable food items.

Minimum donation per person:

  • 2 cans (fish, fruit, vegetables, or baby food)
  • OR 1 jar of nut butter
  • OR 1 jar of pasta sauce

For a group of 4 people, you can also donate:

  • 1 pack of baby diapers
  • OR 1 box of baby cereal
  • OR 1 box of baby food

All donations must be commercially packaged, shelf-stable, and sealed.

No homemade goods, fresh fruit, or damaged packaging.


Tour dates and times:

  • Sunday, December 14: 9 AM, 1 PM, and 4 PM
  • Monday, December 15: 9 AM, 1 PM, and 4 PM
  • Tuesday, December 16: 9 AM, 1 PM, and 4 PM
