Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel is looking for PART-TIME breakfast host to join its team!

who are we?

We’re a collective of hostels with super local character. A social economy business. We help everybody explore our neck of the woods like a local. From the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula to the Great Lakes of Ontario, we offer social accommodation. A place to meet up with people who come from all over the world.

Together, we help grow the nomad community.

your work environment:

You’ll be able to tell your friends and family that you work in an old jail! Our historic 150 years old building has been a hostel for 50 years, but before that it was a jail. Although we’ve added comfort, we haven’t touched the most distinctive elements, like the stone walls and iron doors in cells. The travellers can still sleep in the jail cells and live an out of the ordinary experience.

your responsibilities:

You’ll be responsible for serving breakfast in the morning and make sure that the dining area stays clean for guests. Weekly, you will be called to run hostel activities offered to the travelers (pub crawl, BBQs, etc.) to help our Experience Curator.

more specifically, you will be called to:

• Prepare the breakfast (cut fruits, prepare coffee, boil eggs, cut bagels – small preparations).
• Make sure that everything stays filled up as the guests serve themselves during the breakfast.
• Provide hospitality and excellent customer service to guests.
• Keep the dining area clean for guests.
• Help the Activity Curator with hostel activities and special events.
• Carry out any related task.

• You’re comfortable with routine work.
• You have a strong knowledge of English.
• You have a food handling certification (an asset).
• You know the hostel business (an asset).
• You speak other languages (an asset).

• 16 to 20 hours a week, could be more during high season or during certain festivals
• Remuneration: Starting salary at $18.50/hour.
